What Colors Will the Iphone 8 Have
Which iPhone 8 color should you get? It's one of the biggest decisions about buying the new iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, and it's one of the most expressive differences between the iPhones. We'll help you decide which iPhone 8 color option you should buy and why it might not matter as much as you think for most buyers.
Apple added a fourth iPhone 8 color option this year, bumping us up to four options including; red silver, gold and space gray. That's down from six iPhone 7 colors last year, but there are still some important things to consider when you pick your iPhone 8 color or iPhone 8 Plus color. Apple offers the same colors for each, and all of the colors are available on each carrier, so you don't need to worry about exclusives.
Apple added the Product RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus color option in April 2018. "This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Product Marketing. "iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus improve on everything we love about iPhone, including Retina HD displays that are more beautiful than ever, the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone with the A11 Bionic and more advanced cameras for unbelievable photos and videos. We are proud to support (RED) with this bold new iPhone and hope customers think it is as special as we do."
The new iPhone 8 design features a glass back, which may change your views on using a case and could influence which color iPhone 8 you want. Apple offers a new gold iPhone 8 color that is slightly different than the gold iPhone 7, so you'll want to take a closer look at it when you can. Apple still uses two different front colors for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which are more important to some users than the overall color.
Best iPhone 8 Color for Watching Movies
If you plan to use that massive 5.8-inch display to watch movies, you'll probably want to go with a Space Gray or Red iPhone 8 color choice. These are the only ones with a black front. This will disappear better when watching movies. This is the same reason your HDTV isn't surrounded by white bezels. Ideally your screen should be the focus and the bezels should fade into the background. This remains important on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus that still have fairly large bezels.
While there is nothing wrong with a white iPhone bezel that you will find on silver and gold models, it's not going to deliver the same viewing experience as the space gray iPhone 8.
Most Stylish iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Colors
With the glass back and the new look, the gold iPhone 8 color option is the most stylish color you can pick. We are already seeing a ton of iPhone 8 cases that mix designs with clear areas of the case to create cool color combinations of gold and sometimes silver. The newest Product Red iPhone 8 color choice is even more stunning if you plan to keep your iPhone 8 out of a case.
Every iPhone release there is a big demand for the gold or other special color and this will likely be one of the hardest to find in stock right away. Since there is a glass back you don't need this gold one to let people know you have the new iPhone, but it is the only new color for the iPhone 8. Apple previously offered Gold, but this is a different shade.
If you want the safest choice, which will match basically everything, pick up the silver iPhone 8 color since it will reflect the colors around you.
iPhone 8 Color Options
Check out the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus color options below to see how they look on both sides. You can check these out in person at an Apple Store or most carriers, where there will be samples of each color available.
iPhone 8 Colors Scratches
Apple boasts that the iPhone 8 glass is the most durable available, so it should in theory handle scratches and breakage pretty well. That said, scratches on glass are a real concern.
In most cases a lighter color like silver or gold will show scratches less than a darker color like space gray. If you want to play it safe and plan to use your iPhone 8 without a case, go for a lighter color.
iPhone 8 Colors Fading and Wear
Typically we are concerned with how well the aluminum finish will hold up on many iPhone models, but with a new glass back there is less chance that improper care will result in changes to the iPhone finish.
Previously we had seen some lighter iPhone colors change due to exposure to sweat, water and debris inside a case. With a glass back this shouldn't be an issue so we don't have any current recommendations about which of the new iPhone 8 colors is the most durable in the long term. We'll be updating with real world information.
iPhone 8 Cases
It's a good idea to think about how the iPhone 8 color you pick will look inside of a case. Many people use a case to keep the iPhone safe or to add to the looks and style of the iPhone. You may see the iPhone color through some of the cases. Some of the cool Case-Mate options are clear with designs that will show off the color choice and stack a design on top.
With other cases you will only see the front of the phone, so you need to decide if you like a white front or a black front better. You can see how the iPhone looks in some of the iPhone 8 case options below.
Which iPhone 8 Color Should I Buy?
You're the only one who can pick the best iPhone 8 color for you, but having owned multiple color options we lean towards space gray, mainly for the black front and the overall good looks it delivers. My wife wanted the rose gold iPhone 6s, but once she remembered that her iPhone is in a case 99% of the time she chose the silver iPhone and got a rose gold Mophie case.
- Space Gray iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus – You'll be watching a lot of movies, you don't like white phone fronts.
- Silver iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus – You want the iPhone 8 color that works with any colors and cases available.
- Gold iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus – You want an iPhone that stands out and you don't plan on using a case.
- (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus – You want a stylish and bold iPhone that also supports a cause.
Space gray was the most popular color for Gotta Be Mobile readers for the iPhone 6, losing out to Rose Gold for the iPhone 6s. Black, now Space Gray again, was the number one pick for the iPhone 7.
